The use and consumption of prestressing steel in North America (includes Canada, the United States and Mexico)
A couple of graphs (extracted from the PTI Tonnage Report 2016) that show how the consumption of prestressing steel in North America is distributed.
Contrary to popular belief, only 7% of prestressing steel was used in bridges in 2016, while buildings and floor slabs (foundations and industrial floors) accounted for 85% of total consumption. And while the use in bridges and geotechnics decreased from 2015 to 2016, in buildings it increased substantially, as well as in floor slabs.
According to the same source, the consumption of prestressing steel in the region was:
2014 164,253 tons
2015 174,085 tons + 5.99%
2016 189,995 tons + 9.14%
